We hope you have a great weekend! Please take the time to read all sections of this update so you have current information regarding things occurring at Adams and in the district.
Learning at Adams
There have been amazing things happening in the classrooms at Adams. Check out the photo gallery below!
TikTok Challenges – Violation of the Code of Conduct
There is a new challenge circulating on TikTok called the “Devious Lick” challenge that encourages TikTok users to post videos of themselves stealing items and damaging school bathrooms and classrooms.
We have had a few incidents at Adams related to this and are asking you to speak with your student about the possible consequences that will incur for anyone participating.
This is a violation of several district expectations and could result in a suspension for a student participating.
Your child will be bringing home the Adams Student Handbook next week. This handbook discusses our policies, procedures and code of conduct. Please review this with your child.
Newspaper Club Recruitment
We are seeking students in all grades to join our newspaper club. If your student is interested, please have him or her email firstname.lastname@example.org 0r email@example.com for more information!
7th and 8th Grade Parents – Save the Date!
We will hold parent meetings on September 28, 2021 to discuss a 7th grade trip to Chicago and an 8th grade trip to Philadelphia.
7th Grade – 6:00 pm
8th Grade – 7:00 pm
Please continue to review expectations with your student. We focus on being safe, respectful and responsible at Adams. Also remind your student that we are an off and away for the day school and we do not permit cell phone use at any time. Each student has his or her own locker to lock phones in if they bring it to school.
The Michigan Attorney General’s office will present OK2SAY student safety programming on September 29, 2021 at Adams Middle School.
Students in 6th – 8th grade learn what the OK2SAY program is, how it works, what types of incidents they can report, how to submit a tip, and what will happen with the tip. Students then get detailed explanations about bullying, cyberbullying, suicide, sexting, sexual abuse, the predator threat, and how to protect themselves online. Students see a video about the power of words, the deceptive ways internet predators target teens, along with a video featuring students from Michigan that have tragically died by suicide due in part to bullying. Through the presentation, these students are encouraged to stand up for themselves and their peers and to always be mindful of the power of their words.
More information and resources are available on the OK2SAY website (ok2say.com). If you would like to opt your child out of this presentation, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
