Week of March 2, 2020

Staff Corner

Please meet Mrs. Brooks, our new counselor.  She comes to us from Redford Union with twelve years of experience in the classroom.  She earned her undergraduate degree from Madonna and her Master’s from Central Michigan University.

She is a mother of two children.  She enjoys cooking, reading and traveling.  She spends time during the summer on her boat.

We look forward to the new ideas she will bring to Adams and the services she will be providing to our students!

Count on Us!

Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher with any questions or concerns you have regarding your student.  Our teachers are here to support your child’s academic, behavioral and emotional needs as it relates to school.

In the event that you need additional assistance after working with your child’s teacher, please reach out to myself or Mrs. Sheppard so we can provide an additional layer of support.

Please remember, we can’t provide support if we are unaware of what is occurring.  We are committed to making sure all of our students are successful at Adams!

Early Release Day – This Tuesday, March 3rd

March 3rd will be an Early Release Day. Students will be released from school at 1:50 pm. Please make necessary arrangements for your child. Our transportation department will follow their normal routes, beginning at 1:50 pm. If you pick your child up from school, please be mindful of our early release time if you need to make adjustments to your schedule. Bright Futures will begin at 1:50 pm.

Hungry Howie’s Fundraiser

On Monday, we will begin selling Hungry Howie’s Pizza certificates.  For every certificate sold, the school will get $4.00!  Only cash or money order will be accepted.  All orders must be turned in no later than March 17, 2020.

Battle of the Books!

In honor of reading month, we will be hosting a battle of the books competition during March!  Students will read books and come together to demonstrate their abilities and test their knowledge of the books they have read. The competition is similar in style to the TV series Family Feud. Students are responsible to read at home and will practice with their team during lunch once a week.

Permission slips were sent home yesterday and are due back by Wednesday, March 4th.

*Your child will be notified about what books he or she will be required to read once assigned to a team.

Mobile Dentist

The mobile dentist will be here on March 16th.  Please submit the paperwork sent home that is required to ensure your child will be seen by the dentist.

District Calendar Change

We want to announce a change to our calendar. There will be NO SCHOOL for K-6 grade students on Tuesday, March 10, 2020

This is due to the 2020 Presidential Primary Election. Because many of our schools serve as polling locations, having school in session on an election day can be disruptive to the school environment and inhibits our normal safety protocols.

Recent legislative changes provide public school districts the option to use such days for professional development.

Our middle and high schools will be in session and have a full day of instruction on March 10.

Do You Shop at Kroger?

Please help Adams earn cash through Kroger’s Community Rewards Program. The money Kroger kicks back to the school will directly benefit classrooms and students! Follow the link below, search Adams Upper Elementary, and you will be able to enroll.  Please share this with family and friends that shop at Kroger.
