Return to Learn Plan

At the regularly scheduled board meeting on August 10th, the board voted to begin the school year with distance learning until at least October 23, 2020.  Please see the letter below from Superintendent Dignan that was sent to all emails this week with further information regarding our return to learn plan.

Chromebook Distribution

The announcement that Wayne-Westland Community Schools will begin the school year with distance learning has raised many questions about access to computers for students. We have conducted an inventory of all district devices and our Technology Department is currently working on a distribution plan to ensure all our students are equipped with a device to complete his or her school work. Once the plan is finalized we will communicate with all families on how and where to pick up a device (if needed). If your child(ren) already has a device he or she may use their own for their school work.  If you have any questions please contact our Technology Department at 734-419-2089.

Schedule Pick-Up

On August 25th and August 27th we will have schedule pick-up on site at Adams.  The pick-up times will be staggered so that we can provide a safe environment for our families.  Students will enter through the main door and obtain their schedule.  Staff will then direct students to the gym to get their Lifetouch picture taken.  Signage will be posted directing students to the exit adjacent to the main door.  This will allow for a one way flow of traffic and proper social distancing to take place.  We will limit the number of people in the building at one time if necessary to maintain a safe environment.

We will provide hand sanitizer upon entering the building and ask that masks are worn at all times with the exception of when photos are being taken.

Please see the schedule below and information to order photos if interested.

8/25 – 6th Grade, 9 am – 11 am followed by 7th Grade, 1 pm – 3 pm

8/27 – 8th Grade, 9 am – 11 am followed by make-up times from 1 pm – 3 pm

*Note – If you have children in multiple grades, please select one of the time frames to obtain all schedules.

Wayne-Westland Community Schools will be participating in a new option available to schools as part of the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Program called the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for the school year 2020-2021.

The GREAT NEWS is that ALL students enrolled at our school are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at school at NO CHARGE to your household each day of the 2020-2021 school year.

We are asking that you fill out and sign the Application for Household Information Report and email it to Karen Snow in our Food Services Department at which is needed for administrative purposes, not to determine eligibility. You can also print, fill out & sign the survey and turn it in to your youngest child’s school.   This survey allows our school to benefit from various State and Federal supplemental programs like Title I A, At Risk (31s), Title II A, E -Rate, etc. This survey is critical in determining the amount of money the school receives from a variety of supplemental programs. We are asking that you please complete and submit it as soon as possible. Once filled out, please submit a hard copy to the main office of your school.

All information on the survey submitted is confidential. Without your assistance, the school cannot maximize utilization of available State and Federal funds.

If you need any assistance, please contact our Food Services Department at 734-419-2118.

Update – 2019/2020 Yearbooks

There have been lots of questions regarding yearbooks from last year.  Here is the most recent update we have been provided to pass along to our families.

Dear Families,

Yearbooks are a tradition for schools throughout the US and Canada. At Lifetouch, we are humbled to be a part of providing that tradition. We know how important yearbooks are – especially in times like these.

We want to take a moment to acknowledge this year’s delayed yearbook delivery is not what you, as our customers expect, nor deserve, from Lifetouch.

We want you to be aware that our primary yearbook production facilities are located in some of the states that are being hardest hit by the pandemic. We have prioritized the safety of our employees; and we are following all state and local health guidelines to create a safe working environment. Social distancing requirements mean that there are fewer people available to work at any given time. These changes have impacted our production schedule in meaningful ways.

We realize this has created a lot of frustration since we are currently unable to provide an estimated delivery time frame for your school’s yearbook. Please know our teams are doing everything possible to get your yearbook to you. Shipping is monitored daily. As soon as your yearbook ships, your school will receive tracking information so they can arrange to distribute the yearbooks to the students and families in a manner that is best suited for everyone’s safety.

As we navigate COVID-19, our intent is to provide you with a yearbook that your student will treasure for a lifetime. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this unprecedented time together.
