Wow! It was great seeing so many familiar faces during our schedule pick-up and Chromebook distribution this week. We gave out roughly 440 devices to our families! If you were unable to get to the school this week to get your Chromebook, information about make-up times can be found below.
Student schedules are now available on student and parent connect. Our teachers reported back to work today and will be sending you and your child an email with instructions on how to log in to Google Meet/Classroom on Tuesday, September 1st.
Please read the information below carefully to answer questions you have and to stay informed. A virtual open house will be emailed to you next week so you can meet our staff and learn about Adams. Chromebook Make-Up Schedule
If you did not have a chance to pick up a Chromebook for your student at our Technology Distribution Day this week, the District has scheduled two make-up days. If your student will need a computer for school, you may pick one up between the hours of 8 am and 4 pm on Thursday, September 10, or Friday, September 11 at the Rose Kennedy Center, 36825 Marquette, Westland, located behind the Board of Education offices.
This is a change from the original make-up days because our shipment of Chromebooks has been delayed. As you know this situation is not unique to Wayne-Westland Community Schools as the global supply chain is stalled and public entities are competing for the same resources.
We are expecting shipments of Chromebooks next week and we have been in constant contact with the vendor. These dates are based on the anticipated arrival of these devices and could change if our shipment is delayed again. We appreciate your patience with this process and will share updates with you as this will be a fluid process.
If you have your own personal device for your student and need assistance with accessing the information that students will need, here is a link to our Community Tech Help website. The site will have general FAQs for both students and adults assisting them. In general, students will need to have access to a browser that can access Google applications. We recommend using the Google Chrome browser; it allows the students to have access to their full district Google account. (Mobile and tablet users may have to download specific apps, such as Google Classroom through their app stores.)
If you need additional help, our Instructional Technology Specialists will be available to assist you with downloading the Google Chrome browser or the apps to your devices from 8 am to 4 pm on Wednesday, September 2 at the Board of Education office at 36745 Marquette, Westland.
Our 6th grade students will use their computer log-in as their username. (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Username: The first four letters of their last name, first initial middle
initial and the last four digits of their student number. (If they do not
have a middle initial in they do not have one in their login). Their password is their birthday (00/00/0000).

On Thursday, September 3, there will be a food distribution at Roosevelt Elementary from 10am – 12pm. This will be the only distribution not at Adams. Our food distribution will be every Friday at Adams from 10am – 12pm. More information about our first onsite food pick-up will be in the next newsletter.
Distance Learning Attendance
Attendance will be taken everyday except for Wednesdays. Your child will be marked present if he or she logs in to a Google Meet with his or her teacher, submits an assignment that can be documented, or engages in an email or phone conversation with his or her teacher. We will be monitoring attendance and filing truancy paperwork if your child is not engaged in his or her learning.
Distance Learning Environment
Below you can access our Adams virtual learning expectations. Our expectations are focused on being safe, respectful, and responsible in a virtual environment. We ask that parents please respect the learning time of our students and instructional time of our teachers. Teachers will not be available to answer parent questions during virtual instruction. Please email or message your child’s teacher with questions you have and he or she will respond when they are not teaching in a timely manner.
Each student is assigned a counselor that will be the contact person for questions regarding schedules. Counselors will be available to support students academically, socially and emotionally as well. Caseloads are determined by last name and can be found below.

The First Day of School – Tuesday 9/1/20
The schedule below it the schedule our 7th and 8th grade students will follow on the first day of school.
- 1st hour – 8:00-8:30
- 2nd hour – 8:45-9:15
- 3rd hour – 9:30-10:00
- 4th hour – 10:15-10:45
- 5th hour – 12:00-12:30
- 6th hour – 12:45-1:15
You will receive the links to join class on Google Meet from classroom teachers. If your child is in 6th grade, the teacher will communicate his or her plan for the day since they do not follow the traditional hourly schedule. This information will be sent to your email. Please make sure we have the most up to date information in Parent Connect. Please follow the directions below for updating your information.
First Week of School
On September 2nd and 3rd, we will be distributing materials students will need to complete work at home. We ask that only students enter the building to get their materials. We will help students find their rooms. They will be in and out in five minutes! These materials will NOT include the technology!
The materials that your child will pick up may include textbooks, workbooks, other literature, notebooks, equipment, etc. Feel free to reach out to your child’s teachers on their schedule to inquire about whether they will have materials for you to pick up. Distance Learning Schedule
Upon returning from Labor Day Recess on September 8th, the same modified schedule followed on the first day of school will be followed for our 7th and 8th graders. This gives teachers time to get to know their students and begin building relationships. Again, our 6th grade teachers will communicate to our 6th graders what the structure for the day will look like on the 8th. On September 9th, we will begin settling into our regular distance learning schedules. The links to the schedules are below. Classroom teachers will provide a more detailed breakdown of what each class structure will look like.
The District has been working closely with the Champions Childcare Program to help meet the childcare needs of our staff and families. We have negotiated a reduced rate with Champions until the District returns full face-to-face (State would be at Phase 5).
Champions will be operating in each individual Elementary School and Stevenson Middle School starting with the new school year on Tuesday, September 1, 2020.
Champions will be offering time in the day for students to do their virtual learning with their teachers and complete assignments daily. Both enrollment options will include time for assignments and learning to be completed. The District will provide desktop computers for students without a device. The District will provide breakfast and lunch to students enrolled in Champions.

COMMUNITY ELIGIBILITY PROVISION (CEP)
The GREAT NEWS is that ALL students enrolled at our school are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at school at NO CHARGE to your household each day of the 2020-2021 school year.
We are asking that you fill out and sign the Application for Household Information Report and email it to Karen Snow in our Food Services Department at email@example.com which is needed for administrative purposes, not to determine eligibility. You can also print, fill out & sign the survey and turn it in to your youngest child’s school. This survey allows our school to benefit from various State and Federal supplemental programs like Title I A, At Risk (31s), Title II A, E -Rate, etc. This survey is critical in determining the amount of money the school receives from a variety of supplemental programs. We are asking that you please complete and submit it as soon as possible. Once filled out, please submit a hard copy to the main office of your school.
All information on the survey submitted is confidential. Without your assistance, the school cannot maximize utilization of available State and Federal funds.

Updating Registration for Current Students
Please log in to your ParentConnection account to update your child(ren)’s contact information as well as re-acknowledge important school policies.
If you have moved and need to change your address, you will need to bring your new mortgage/lease/current tax bill along with two other proofs of residency to the Administration Office located at 36745 Marquette, Westland MI 48185.
Updating for CURRENT (returning) students will began on July 15th. Parents can access this through Parent Connect. You must be on a computer to complete the registration as it is not mobile/tablet friendly.
