Another GREAT Week!

We are wrapping up week two and things are great.  Thank you for working with us to make this transition back to in person learning smooth.

Our girls basketball teams had their home opener games this week.  Our 6th grade girls defeated Stevenson, and although the 7th and 8th grade team was defeated, we are proud of their hard work and determination.

Our bowlers are back at it each Wednesday and our first in person positive office referral was given!  We are so proud of our Eagles!

State Testing Update

In our effort to keep our families informed in this year of ongoing change, we are providing this information regarding the annual statewide tests, namely the M-Step, SAT and PSAT assessments.

There are many unknowns that have to be addressed by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) pertaining to the Spring 2021 Statewide Assessments.  We are aware that the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) requested from the U.S. Department of Education (USED) a waiver from the federal requirement to administer the statewide summative assessments to Michigan students this spring.  In addition to that waiver, MDE is currently working with the Michigan state legislature to potentially amend existing legislation regarding these statewide assessments.

We as a school district have not been given a timeframe for such waivers.  Until a waiver or other flexibility is granted, we as a school district must move ahead with planning to administer the annual statewide tests for students in Grades 3 through 11.

It is important to note that all of these assessments must be delivered in-person.  There is no mechanism that allows for these tests to be delivered remotely.  This will require WWCSD Online and Homebound students to report to their school of residence for testing.

In our planning for these test administrations, please know that we will strictly adhere to CDC safety guidelines.  In some cases, that will require a change to building schedules to accommodate all factors.

Please see below the testing dates at each level as things currently stand.

***Special Education students may be required to attend other days as well due to their accommodations. They will be contacted directly.***

Course Selections for our 6th and 7th Grade (2021/2022)

It’s that time of year when we begin thinking about schedules for next fall. Today we are sharing the middle school course catalog with you so you can begin to review course options for the fall with your student.  It is important to point out that all courses in the catalog may not be offered next year.  We have to take student interest and staffing into consideration when planning what electives we offer.

Course Catalog

During the week of February 8th, the counselors will visit our 6th and 7th grade classes to explain how to complete the electronic course selection sheet.

The counseling department has put together a webpage with various resources to help you and your child.  This webpage will be updated frequently as new resources come to us.  You can find information regarding academic support, college and career exploration, study tips, student self-care and more.  This will always be available at the top of this blog for you to access.

Returning to In-Person Instruction

As we prepare to transition to in person learning on March 1, 2021, it is important to remind everyone of the following:

Our virtual program enrollment is closed and applications are no longer being accepted.  On March 1, 2021, all of our Adams students that are not enrolled in Edgenuity are expected to return to the classroom for in person learning following the hybrid schedule.  Your child does not have the option of staying home and being provided instruction virtually, with the exception of Wednesday when all students are learning virtually.

If your child is not in attendance on his our her scheduled in person learning days, he or she will be marked absent.  Excessive absences will result in truancy protocols being enforced which could result in a referral to our Westland police school resource officer.

Hybrid Cohort Information

Below you can review the hybrid cohort schedule.  Cohort A consists of students with the last names beginning with A-K, and Cohort B, last names L-Z.  If your child was moved to a different cohort based on the eldest child’s last name, you have been notified. Please let us know immediately if you have questions about this.

Transportation Needs Survey

If your child is eligible for WWCS transportation, please complete the following survey by Friday, February 12, 2021. Bus route information can be found in Parent Portal.

2020/2021 District Calendar

January 22, 2021

Dear Families,

Below you will find the most recent school and district updates.  As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to one of us directly at eatone@wwcsd.net or sheppardl@wwcsd.net.

Hybrid Cohort Information

When we return to in person learning on March 1, 2021, we will return in a hybrid model.  Each student will be assigned to cohort A or cohort B.  Please see the schedule below showing what a week will look like.

Students will be divided into cohorts based on their last name.  Students with last names beginning with A-K will be in cohort A, and students with last names beginning with L-Z will be in cohort B unless you have been notified otherwise. If you have multiple students in the household with different last names, all students will attend the cohort based on the oldest siblings last name.

Our 6th grade students may be assigned to an opposite cohort so that we can balance class sizes on different cohort days appropriately.  6th grade cohorts will be finalized early next week and you will be contacted ONLY if you are affected and your child’s cohort needs to be changed.

Please note that we can not accept requests to change cohorts due to scheduling logistics. Again, as mentioned, we will make sure that all students in the same household attend the same cohort across various buildings.

In an effort to ensure that classes remain safely balanced, we will not be able to honor schedule changes and will only consider a change in extreme cases.  We appreciate your understanding.

Below you will find important documents to help you understand our process and procedures for bringing students back to the building safely.

Edgenuity

The deadline to enroll your student in the WWCSD online program has passed and is now closed.

If your child is enrolled in Edgenuity, please note that you have until Friday, January 22 (TODAY) to opt to return to learning in a distance learning model with Adams staff.  This would mean that when students return to learning in person on March 1, your child will return as well and not have the option to remain virtual. We are holding very firm on this date and will not allow students to transfer out of Edgenuity after Friday, January 22 (TODAY). You must fill out the form today by 4:30 pm.
