Positive Office Referrals

One of the most rewarding parts of our job is being able to celebrate students when they are safe, respectful and responsible citizens at Adams.  We encourage our teachers to submit positive office referrals when students are always meeting or exceeding expectations.  Today we were able to make twenty-four calls home to share good news with families.  You can view the list of students that received one of the first positive referrals of the year by clicking on the #GoodNewsCallOfTheDay tab above.  We hope we can make this phone call to each of our families at least once over the course of the year!

Parent Connection Overview/Log-In Info

As we continue learning in a distance learning format, we want you to stay informed about the progress your child is making in his or her classes.  We have asked all teachers to update their Parent Connect by the end of the week so that you can log in and monitor progress.  If you have any questions regarding your child’s academic standing, please contact the teacher directly.

What is Parent Connection?

Parent Connection is a web-based service that gives parents the ability to access student data via the Internet. Parents use a confidential personal identification number (PIN) and password to view their student’s attendance, grades, assignments and other information online.

What information is available to parents through Parent Connection?

Daily Access to Student Attendance

-Attendance is taken twice a day, morning and afternoon, at the elementary level.
-At the secondary level, attendance is taken hourly.
-Teachers record the daily attendance by the end of each school day.

Access to Student Grades

-Middle school and high school teachers record their grades electronically, therefore assignments and grades may be viewed using Parent Connection.

-Student grades are not necessarily entered daily, so parents should allow a few days for the teachers to record assignment and test grades.

-Parents of secondary students can also view their student’s transcript, grade point average (GPA), and current schedule.

Demographic Information

Access to keep vital information current (address, phone, date of birth, etc.)

How can I register for Parent Connection?

Parents must register at each child’s building. Because of the confidential nature of the data which is accessed, parents must register in person and bring photo identification. You will be given your PIN (personal identification number) and password at the time of registration along with directions for accessing this new service.

If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school office.

NWEA Testing

Our students will be taking the NWEA ELA, Math and Science test in the upcoming weeks.  The purpose of these assessments are to help teachers understand what students know so they can best meet each child’s individual needs.  It is extremely important that you DO NOT assist your child when taking these tests.  The tests will not affect grades and students can not pass or fail the test.  If you assist your child, the results will not be accurate and we will not have the correct data we need to move forward with instruction. Encourage your student to simply do the best they can.

Please follow the link below to see how you can help prepare your child prior to testing and on the day of the test.  Teachers will communicate specific testing dates and times.  Thank you for helping us make this assessment a success virtually!

Chromebook Make-Up Schedule

If you did not have a chance to pick up a Chromebook for your student at our Technology Distribution Day this week, the District has scheduled two make-up days pending shipments arriving. If your student will need a computer for school, you may pick one up between the hours of 8 am and 4 pm on Thursday, September 10, or Friday, September 11 at the Rose Kennedy Center, 36825 Marquette, Westland, located behind the Board of Education offices.

This is a change from the original make-up days because our shipment of Chromebooks has been delayed. As you know this situation is not unique to Wayne-Westland Community Schools as the global supply chain is stalled and public entities are competing for the same resources.

We are expecting shipments of Chromebooks next week and we have been in constant contact with the vendor.  These dates are based on the anticipated arrival of these devices and could change if our shipment is delayed again.  We appreciate your patience with this process and will share updates with you as this will be a fluid process.

If you have your own personal device for your student and need assistance with accessing the information that students will need, here is a link to our Community Tech Help website. The site will have general FAQs for both students and adults assisting them. In general, students will need to have access to a browser that can access Google applications. (Mobile and tablet users may have to download specific apps, such as Google Classroom through their app stores.)

If you need additional help, our Instructional Technology Specialists will be available to assist you with downloading the Google Chrome browser or the apps to your devices from 8 am to 4 pm on Wednesday, September 2 at the  Board of Education office at 36745 Marquette, Westland.

COMMUNITY ELIGIBILITY PROVISION (CEP)

Wayne-Westland Community Schools will be participating in a new option available to schools as part of the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Program called the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for the school year 2020-2021.

The GREAT NEWS is that ALL students enrolled at our school are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at school at NO CHARGE to your household each day of the 2020-2021 school year.

We are asking that you fill out and sign the Application for Household Information Report and email it to Karen Snow in our Food Services Department at snowk@wwcsd.net which is needed for administrative purposes, not to determine eligibility. You can also print, fill out & sign the survey and turn it in to your youngest child’s school.   This survey allows our school to benefit from various State and Federal supplemental programs like Title I A, At Risk (31s), Title II A, E -Rate, etc. This survey is critical in determining the amount of money the school receives from a variety of supplemental programs. We are asking that you please complete and submit it as soon as possible. Once filled out, please submit a hard copy to the main office of your school.

All information on the survey submitted is confidential. Without your assistance, the school cannot maximize utilization of available State and Federal funds.

If you need any assistance, please contact our Food Services Department at 734-419-2118.
