Chromebook Distribution/Schedule Pick-Up

On August 25th and August 27th we will have Chromebook distribution and schedule pick-up on site at Adams.  Students enrolled in Edgenuity will also pick up devices at Adams. The pick-up times will be staggered so that we can provide a safe environment for our families.  Students will enter through the main door and obtain their schedule.  Staff will then direct students to the gym to get their Lifetouch picture taken (Edgenuity students included).  Before exiting the building, Chromebooks will be distributed.  Signage will be posted directing students to the exit adjacent to the main door after receiving their device.  This process will allow for a one way flow of traffic and proper social distancing to take place.  We will limit the number of people in the building at one time if necessary to maintain a safe environment.  We will provide hand sanitizer upon entering the building and ask that masks are worn at all times with the exception of when photos are being taken.

WWCSD devices are intended for academic use only.  District-owned Chromebooks only accept district-issued user accounts.  Gaming, social media and other inappropriate content is blocked.

Due to the unique circumstances presented by COVID-19, we are waiving any checkout fees during this distribution.  Please be aware that acceptance of a district device implies a responsibility to care for and return the device and accessories in working condition and with only reasonable wear and tear.  Students are expected to bring the device and accessories with them to Adams, with the battery in a fully-charged state upon our return to face-to-face learning.  The device must also be returned within 1 week of request of severance with WWCSD.  Failure to return the device and accessories within 1 week may result in the matter being escalated to a collection process.  Further details are found in the Technology Loan Agreement Form.  You MUST complete this loan agreement form prior to arrival at Adams to pick-up your device!

Please see the schedule for both days below and information to order photos if interested.

8/25 – 6th Grade, 9 am – 11 am followed by 7th Grade, 1 pm – 3 pm

8/27 – 8th Grade, 9 am – 11 am followed by make-up times from 1 pm – 3 pm

Chromebook Distribution

The announcement that Wayne-Westland Community Schools will begin the school year with distance learning has raised many questions about access to computers for students. We have conducted an inventory of all district devices and our Technology Department is currently working on a distribution plan to ensure all our students are equipped with a device to complete his or her school work. Once the plan is finalized we will communicate with all families on how and where to pick up a device (if needed). If your child(ren) already has a device he or she may use their own for their school work.  If you have any questions please contact our Technology Department at 734-419-2089.

Update – 2019/2020 Yearbooks

There have been lots of questions regarding yearbooks from last year.  Here is the most recent update we have been provided to pass along to our families.

Dear Families,

Yearbooks are a tradition for schools throughout the US and Canada. At Lifetouch, we are humbled to be a part of providing that tradition. We know how important yearbooks are – especially in times like these.

We want to take a moment to acknowledge this year’s delayed yearbook delivery is not what you, as our customers expect, nor deserve, from Lifetouch.

We want you to be aware that our primary yearbook production facilities are located in some of the states that are being hardest hit by the pandemic. We have prioritized the safety of our employees; and we are following all state and local health guidelines to create a safe working environment. Social distancing requirements mean that there are fewer people available to work at any given time. These changes have impacted our production schedule in meaningful ways.

We realize this has created a lot of frustration since we are currently unable to provide an estimated delivery time frame for your school’s yearbook. Please know our teams are doing everything possible to get your yearbook to you. Shipping is monitored daily. As soon as your yearbook ships, your school will receive tracking information so they can arrange to distribute the yearbooks to the students and families in a manner that is best suited for everyone’s safety.

As we navigate COVID-19, our intent is to provide you with a yearbook that your student will treasure for a lifetime. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this unprecedented time together.

Sincerely,

Lifetouch

June 4, 2020

Dear Families,

As things begin to wind down this year, I want to thank you for your support throughout the school closure and the year in general.  Your partnership has played a key role in continuing your child’s education over the past few months.  As a parent myself, I understand how difficult and trying this time has been. I tried my best to find balance between helping educate my own children and meet their emotional needs, continuing my work for Adams and Marshall, as well as maintain life outside of these aspects and at home. We are in the home stretch, we made it.  No one said it would be easy, but we made it and are stronger than before.  Please allow us to continue to support you through the end of the school year and into the summer months as needed.

In addition to the pandemic we are living through, we are now witnessing tragic events unfold across the nation.  Our attention has shifted from Covid, to these horrific events occurring in cities near and far.  This has brought out different emotions in all of us.  For me, it brings out great sadness and anger knowing that we live in a world filled with so much hate, racism, and violence.

As the principal of such an amazing community, I commit to you that discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated in the school setting. We will work towards educating one another about individual differences and celebrate diversity in all forms.

Important new information regarding the end of the year and the fall can be read below.  A final communication for the year will be sent out next week.  As always, reach out to me directly with any questions or concerns you have.

Sincerely,

Erin Eaton

Please remember that next week we will have our school open for you to pick up student belongings.  More information can be found below, including the pick-up schedule and information regarding the summer giveaway we will have available.  If you have school materials at home, please return them at this time.  We look forward to seeing you!

I have received questions about yearbooks and spring pictures.  We are working closely with Lifetouch to get an update on where things stand.  At this time yearbooks are not completed so we are weighing our options on whether to issue refunds or mail these out in the summer months when they are available.  As soon as I have an answer for you, I will provide you with an update.  I am hopeful spring pictures will be available beginning next week.

Retrieving Student Belongings

Classroom teachers are in the process of collecting and bagging all materials left behind by students from lockers and desks.  Below, you will find a schedule of when you will be able to access the building for pick-up.  We have created the schedule based on last name.  Below you can find the time and dates that the building will be open to pick up your child’s belongings.  We ask that you adhere to the schedule so that we can maintain social distancing in the building.  Please enter through the front door.  The main hallway will have a materials organized by class and student name.  Staff will be onsite to help direct you to your child’s belongings.  If your child has medication in the office, you will also be able to retrieve that at this time.

As a result of our middle school reconfiguration, some of the school start/end time had to be adjusted beginning with the 2020-21 school year. Adams Middle School hours will be 7:50 am- 2:40 pm to align with Franklin and Stevenson Middle Schools.

Additionally, there are seven late start elementary schools (Edison, Graham, Hamilton, Hicks, Taft, Walker, and Wildwood). Their start/end times will be altered by 10 minutes. The new hours will be 9:10 am- 4 pm.

Mother's Day 2020: When is Mother's Day? | 10 Ways to Celebrate ...

Dear Families,

We hope this update finds you safe and healthy.  Our team is working diligently to provide learning opportunities for your child, as well as provide the emotional support your child may need.  Please encourage him or her to participate in the weekly learning activities provided and continue to reach out to your child’s teacher to let him or know how we can best support you and meet your needs during this time.

Learning packets will continue to be available during food pick-up. Next week, we will also have a pick-up box located outside of the main door at the school on Tuesday and Thursday from 10 am- 12 pm.  If you are able to get to the school, please let your child’s teacher know so we can remove you from the mailing list because transportation would no longer be an issue.

We are in the process of developing a plan that will allow students access to the building to obtain all personal belongings that are in lockers and desks.  Once we have the detailed process, it will be shared with you.

To all of our mothers, we hope you have a fabulous, relaxing Mother’s Day.  You deserve it!

Please do not hesitate to reach out to us for anything at all.

Sincerely,

Erin Eaton, Principal

Dear Families,

We hope that you and your family are staying healthy.  Thank you so much for your support and patience this week as we embarked on a new remote learning journey together.

Please be on the lookout for DOJO messages and emails each week from your child’s teacher.  He or she will be providing you with updated information weekly regarding the learning plan.

The district is ensuring that learning can take place for all of our students during this time.  Although the district is not providing Chromebooks to those in need of devices, we are offering the same learning provided online in paper/pencil form.  The work packets can be picked up each Monday from 10 am to 12 pm at John Glenn High School.  You can send someone in your place to get this as needed.  Contact your child’s teacher if you need other arrangements.

As always, please reach out directly with any questions.

Stay Safe!
